Why is an undergraduate degree in psychology a great foundation for occupational therapy?

Psychologists study behavior and the mind, including conscious and unconscious phenomena, both normal and abnormal functioning, and concentrate on behaviors that affect the mental and emotional health of humans.

Occupational Therapists assist individuals in learning or re-learning skills to improve their lives. It requires getting to know individuals personally, understanding their goals, and identifying creative ways to allow them to reach their desired levels of independence and productivity.

As such, Psychology forms a strong base upon which to build the skills required to become an Occupational Therapist. The Pre-Occupational Therapy concentration is designed as a pre-professional interim degree for students pursuing the Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree at Andrews University. Students' fourth year of undergraduate study will overlap with the first year of the Occupational Therapy Doctorate program, allowing students to complete the Undergraduate and Doctoral Programs in less time.
