Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the Post-Professional (Transitional) DPT sometimes referred to as a tDPT?

The term "tDPT" stands for "Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy" and is often used interchangeably with "Post-Professional DPT" to describe the same program. It highlights the program’s goal of helping internationally trained physical therapists transition their education and credentials to align with the U.S. Doctor of Physical Therapy standards. At Andrews University, we use "Post-Professional (Transitional) DPT" to reflect this purpose clearly.

What is the Post-Professional (Transitional) DPT program, and who is it for?

The Post-Professional (Transitional) DPT program is designed for internationally trained physical therapists who wish to transition their credentials to the U.S. standard of Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). It enhances clinical and academic skills, preparing graduates
for U.S. licensure and practice.

How long does it take to complete the program?

The on-campus post-professional DPT program can be completed in 20 months (five semesters).

Can I take the NPTE (National Physical Therapy Examination) while enrolled in this program?

Yes! The program is designed to prepare you for the NPTE, equipping you with the knowledge and skills required to succeed on this licensure examination. Most of our students take the exam while enrolled in the Post-Professional (Transitional) DPT program.

What makes Andrews University’s Post-Professional (Transitional) DPT program unique?

The curriculum is designed to address the most common educational gaps that may be preventing you from taking the NPTE, ensuring you are fully prepared for this crucial licensure exam. The program also includes dedicated time for NPTE preparation, helping you build the confidence and knowledge necessary to succeed. In addition, our on-site clinic and off-site practicums offer valuable hands-on experience, allowing you to apply your skills in real-world U.S. healthcare settings and gain a deeper understanding of the American physical therapy landscape.

Do I need to take the GRE to apply?

No, the GRE is not required for admission into the Post-Professional (Transitional) DPT
program at Andrews University.

What are the tuition costs, and is financial aid available?

Andrews University offers competitive program pricing. Specific costs can be found on our website or by contacting our admissions office. Payment plans are available for your convenience.

Can I work while enrolled in the program?
